Changlang Police arrests six drug peddlers
ITANAGAR, Jun 2: Changlang Police has arrested six drug peddlers in three different cases in the last one week. Two drug peddlers namely Takchin Atua and Nganwang Kamhua were arrested by Bordumsa police on 30th May. Brown Sugar weighing 11.2 gms was recovered from the peddlers. On their disclosure, one more drug peddler namely Dumsannong Lai was arrested from Bordumsa village along with 5 gms of brown sugar. In another case Jairampur police along with Assam Rifles arrested two lady drug peddlers of New Khamdu village under Jairampur Police Station on 27th May. Eight packets of cloth smeared with opium weighing 1.90 kg were recovered from their possession. They were carrying the opium in a polythene bag covered with green vegetable leaves in an autorickshaw.
Bordumsa police also arrested one drug peddler named Ramesh Deori, a resident of Tinsukia Assam on 30th May. Police recovered Brown Sugar weighing 10 gms from his possession. Regular criminal cases have been registered for aforesaid arrests and further investigation is going on.
Extortionist sentenced to 5 year RI
ITANAGAR, Jun 02: The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Capital Complex, Yupia convicted Bake Kepo of Rouwa village, Parsi Parlo, Kurung Kumey district Under Section 387 IPC and sentenced him to five years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for trying to extort money from a businessman claiming himself to be a member of National Liberation Council of Taniland (NLCT).
The court further imposed fine of Rs. 10,000 on him failing which he will have to undergo simple imprisonment for another two months, informed Capital Complex SP. The accused was arrested on December 8, 2014 in Itanagar PS case no 272 under section 387 IPC.

According to the SP, one Pawan Kumar Jain had informed Naharlagun Police that an unknown person served him an extortion notice demanding Rs.10 lakh. He, however, negotiated with them (extortionist) to accept Rs.80,000 through the phone number given in the extortion note. In the meantime, police laid a trap and succeeded to arrest him, the SP said and added that the SIM card number given on the extortion note was also recovered from his possession along with a handset.
Indian Army contributes books to school and library
ITANAGAR, Jun 2: The 12 Assam Regiment of Indian Army contributed few books for the children of Wakro area. The books were given to the Principal of Apna Vidya Bhavan.
The armymen interacted with rural school children and encouraged them to do well in life by sincerely pursuing their education with commitment and determination.

EPFO office upgraded
New Delhi, Jun 2: Retirement fund body EPFO today said it has upgraded its district offices and services centres in Gangtok, Imphal, Aizwal, Itanagar and Dimapur to special state offices.
"With this EPFO has taken the first step toward knocking at the doorsteps of its members in the North Eastern states," the Labour Ministry said in a release today.
Employees Provident Fund Organisation's (EPFO) special state office will be headed by an Assistant P F Commissioner level officer and would have an Enforcement Officer and other supporting staff, the release said.
The special state offices would focus on special work like compliance monitoring, grievance handling, claims scanning and forwarding.
"This shall be of great assistance and convenience to the EPF members belonging to the states of Sikkim, Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland for availing EPF related services," it added.

Erring IRBn personnel dismissed from service
ITANAGAR, Jun 2: Nine erring IRBn personnel who were involved in the assault of the
town magistrate Liyi Bagra at Aalo on May 25 were dismissed from service by the
authority by an order vide no PSGT/5th IRBN/BHQ/DE-
The brutal attack on the town magistrate had invited lot of protests from all corners of the state especially from the Arunachal Pradesh Civil Service Officers Association (APCSOA) as it was not the first time that IRBn personnel had created ruckus in the form of insubordination and rebellion in the area of public duty, said APCSOA while acknowledging the prompt action of the authority by dismissing the services of the nine erring IRBn personnel.
IRBn has a history of creating public nuisance across the state, instead of being law abiding they had gone berserk and become the law breaker by giving much distress and trauma to the innocent public in the line of duty. They are habitually found violating the superior and subordinate relationship, APCSOA said adding that their training modules are completely objectionable as the teaching of insubordination is completely lacking amongst them.
Meanwhile, the APCSOA cautioned the Government that, if by any means those IRBns personnel are tried to be reinstated to the services by the authority, the Association shall continue with its protest. It urged the Government to detest from making mockery of itself.
Further the association has reiterated its demand for implementation of the Bagra committee report in toto.
Vegetable sellers stopped from

ITANAGAR, Jun 2: Hundreds of women who claimed to be roadside vegetable sellers today attempted to occupy the Urban Development and Housing Department Parking Lot building at Bank Tinali forcibly leading to a minor scuffle between them and police personnel. The women group was demanding to accommodate them in the Parking Lot.
The scuffle broke out when more than 300 women from Chimpu to Nyokum Lapang gathered at UD Parking Lot demanding the district administration to allow them use the building for daily vegetable selling. Group of road side vegetable sellers who were allegedly evicted by the district administration recently have been campaigning in the building demanding the authority to hand it over to them. The women were later evicted by the police personnel on the grounds that they were illegally occupying the government property. Lamenting that they have no other options for sustaining their family but to operate small business at roadsides, a female vendor questioned whether traffic is important than their only source of livelihood. She further claimed that they had submitted a representation to the district administration seeking to accommodate them.
While a case has been registered against unknown persons for criminal trespassing and damage to the property, the lady vendors are adamant to operate inside the building.
The Parking Lot was constructed by Urban Development and Housing Department of Capital Complex Division under JNNURM and is formally yet to be handed over to the department.

Scores have died due to heat wave in the country and with rain belying Met department’s prediction, there seems to be no respite from heat in many parts of India including the national Capital.
Killer heat that has claimed more than 2000 has been relegated to the corner and talking point in media and corridors of power being beef, India’s latest and likely to be a very long obsession. The controversy on beef started at around the same time BJP came to power last year. Though ban on cow slaughter have been in place in many states for so many years, the debate has reached its feverish peak after the Hindu Nationalists, who sometimes seems forget that India is a secular country, came to power in the country.
In April this year, BJP president had to face the heat at Shillong when a beef party was organised to welcome him in protest against BJP’s move to impose ban on cow slaughter. The message was clear and loud; don’t tell us what to eat. But then in a country where 80% of the population regard cows as sacred, the voice of the 20% does not make much of a difference.
The Constitution empowers the states to legislate the “prevention of slaughter and preservation of cattle”. Arunachal, Kerala, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Lakshadweep are the only states that have no legislation on cow slaughter.
The latest to be caught in the beef controversy is Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju. Twisted or not, now the nation knows that beef is not something he will pick. It is rather unbecoming in a secular democratic country that one of the most powerful voices in the Modi govt has to give a clarification on his eating habits. This speaks a lot about the health and future of the secular values of this country.
Of all the things we value, we can only hope that we have the right and freedom to choose what we eat and how we dress and we don’t have to defend it.

Drawing the Governor’s attention towards the crisis, it further demanded invocation of Governor’s discretionary power under article 370(H). It also demanded immediate investigation against mismanagement of central sponsored scheme (CSS) fund and imposition of President Rule in the state.
Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) reacted at the organisations terming the demand of Chief Minister’s resignation as illogical. In a statement, APYC General Secretary Loga Tallang termed the allegation leveled against the government by the organisations as baseless and politically motivated. APYC also flayed the state BJP legislators for lodging complaint against the government in the ministry level.

New Delhi, Jun 2: Arunachal Pradesh Chakma Students’ Union (APCSU) has distanced itself from the activities of Arunachal Pradesh Deprived People Front, a Chakma underground organisation.
The APCSU clarified that Ranjan Kumar Chakma and Arunjit Chakma who have been arrested by police are not office bearers of the APCSU since the expiry of their tenure in October 2014. They stated that APCSU terminated the primary membership of the two persons on 31st May 2015 in Delhi.
While condemning the formation of an armed group by some misguided Chakma youths, the APCSU stated that it “vehemently condemns violence, that too with arms by anyone and demands strict action against anybody who indulges in such criminal activities”.

Sports dept. handicapped by meager allocation of fund

ITANAGAR, Jun 2: Meagre allocation of fund, inadequate coaches and limited infrastructure are claimed to have been adversely affecting overall development of games and sports in Arunachal Pradesh.
Out of the 24 affiliated sports bodies in the state only few have been able to conduct their yearly events/championships regularly in the last couple of years either through self sponsorship or with little assistance from the sports department This has been disclosed by various sports bodies in a meeting convened by Sports Authority of Arunachal (SAA) Chairman Gora Makik at Naharlagun today. Representatives of many sports bodies also said that they have become demoralised by the apathy shown by the government in extending financial support.
On many occasions, we (presidents/secretaries) have to bear the travelling expense of players, they said.
The meeting chaired by SAA Chairman Makik and attended by presidents, general secretaries and representatives of 14 affiliated sports associations unanimously decided to formulate action plan to seek fund from the government to carry out sports activities smoothly.
Addressing the meeting Makik assured all sports bodies/associations to extend all possible financial assistance to conduct their sports activities regularly at state and district level as well. He sought their support and cooperation to further strengthen SAA.

According to SAA Member Secretary Tadar Appa, the state government has allocated/sanctioned Rs.1.15 crore for this fiscal which also includes employees’ salary of over Rs.40 lakh. The department is also burdened with financial liabilities as it was unable to pay pending bills of various sports associations, coaches and managers due to meager allocation of fund to the department.
Appa hoped the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, who has accorded top priority to sports, will understand the difficulties being faced by the sports department and provide them with adequate fund.
While admitting the need of coaches, Appa said that the (sports) department is not against appointment of coaches, but Government will have to provide fund. He advocated for appointing atleast one coach against each event in each district.

SEPPA, Jun 2: Around 8000 adult males are regular users of tobacco and other tobacco related products in East Kameng district. Out of them, 4000 are in critical level and will die if they don’t shun these harmful habits at the earliest. He rescued the endangered animal from the clutches of a group of people, who were chasing it and about to kill it. On being informed, Zoo authority rushed to Doimukh and brought the animal to the zoo.
The fawn was also handed over to zoo authorities by the rescuers.
Both the animals are under rehabilitation at Zoo.
Meanwhile, Zoo authorities, particularly Curator Raya Flago lauded the rescuers of the animals for responding to the call to save wildlife which will definitely send a very positive signal about wildlife conservation. While lauding the role of media in creating awareness on wildlife by publishing reports on animal rescue, he appealed to animal lovers to continue the noble work. This kind of little efforts will go a long way in the conservation of our rich but rapidly decreasing wildlife, he added.

Asking for more
Dear Editor,
This is with reference to 22 Point Memo submitted by CoSAAP and APCSOA published in Arunachal Times dated May 14th.
The demand is highly worthy and would bring tremendous benefits to the entire staffs of Arunachal Pradesh Government. However, there are lots of questions tormenting the mind of common public.
First, what the members of CoSAAP and AP Civil Service have given to this beautiful state? Is it bad road, maladministration, corruption, illegal appointments, looting taxes in every department?
Regarding extension of the retirement age to 60, I would like to ask why the central govt and our public would want corrupt officials to continue for longer period in the department.
Instead, bureaucrat and engineer’s superannuation age should be reduced to 55 years for greater benefit of the state.
They have also proposed for enhancing credit limit of Earned Leave upto 500 days, which get converted to equivalent salary during retirement. This is rubbish in terms of our state govt’s employees.
Anyone can verify by checking during official hours at any department, and in any district under govt. of Arunachal Pradesh and you will find absent or being insincere. For most of them, their duty itself is chutti (Holiday). Off course, the earned leave entitled would go unused. So, why put financial burden on Central Govt by adding on another 200 days (around 7 months)?
We only demand for more and more but contribute nothing; produce nothing. We fail to acknowledge our wrong doings but, ask for lot many prizes for no achievement. If bureaucrat would have been uniformly stronger and engineers would have been uncompromising in their work ethics, we would not have seen this doomsday in Arunachal Pradesh.

Give them a chance too

Govt Higher Sec School Rumgong is one of the best schools in Arunachal Pradesh as it has a reputation of producing brilliant students.
Many of her products are serving Arunachal and its citizens in different categories as politicians, officers, bureaucrats while some are working in NGOs and MNCs etc.
But if you see this year’s CBSE results you won’t believe that this school has records of producing good students.
When I saw the results of class 10 and class 12, I was actually shocked. In class 10th, out of 35 students only 8 students were able to pass with very marginal marks and in class 12, out of 42 students, 19 students have passed, 13 failed while 10 have got compartmental. There are lot of reasons behind the poor performance of students. When I enquired about it, most of students were saying that it is due to poor teaching as well as irregularities of subject teachers.
The syllabus could not be completed in an academic calendar year which has forced the student to do self study. Most students could not comprehend course books as a result, most students have failed.
Some teachers never turn up to the school throughout the year, some teachers teaches the students for 2 to 3 weeks and goes off on leave.
Therefore, I want to request the concern officers, authorities and students union to look into the matter seriously and take initiative so that our own brothers and sisters won’t be deprived of their rights in near future and that they have access to quality education and knowledge.
